Advancing Restorative Justice in Cannabis

Restorative justice in cannabis aims to repair the harm created by decades of unequal enforcement. A key part of this work is expungement, which clears outdated cannabis convictions and helps individuals access employment, housing, and new opportunities. This promotes greater fairness and long-term community well-being.

At Trulieve, we’re deeply committed to supporting these efforts. We proudly partner with MISSION [GREEN] and The Redemption Foundation to advocate for meaningful systemic reform. We also work closely with purpose-driven brands dedicated to cannabis activism—including Black Tuna, DeLisioso, and Redemption—to help advance this important work.

MISSION [GREEN]

MISSION [GREEN] is a national initiative dedicated to supporting individuals disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition. Led by The Weldon Project, MISSION [GREEN] works to address the injustices and the collateral consequences of cannabis arrests and convictions by providing relief through clemency, expungement efforts, commissary support, and advocacy for legislative reform.

The Redemption Foundation

The Redemption Foundation supports individuals impacted by the justice system through mutual aid and programs that help them reintegrate into society, seek redemption, and improve their quality of life. Our work is a direct response to the injustices faced by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals, their families, and communities harmed by cannabis prohibition. Our Commissary Program aims to reduce financial strain on families of incarcerated individuals by providing funds for commissary purchases and relief for families already struggling.

Purpose-Driven Brand Partners

You can find Black Tuna and DeLisioso products at Trulieve stores in Florida, and Redemption products in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Black Tuna is a potent, indica‑leaning hybrid earning its name from the infamous Black Tuna Gang of the 1970s. Known for its strong aroma, high THC levels, and deeply relaxing effects, the strain gained early cult status with its novelty tuna‑can packaging. Today, the brand is also tied to the legacy of advocate Robert “Bobby Tuna” Platshorn, whose post‑incarceration work helped cement Black Tuna as a symbol of both cannabis culture and reform.

DeLisioso is a mission‑driven, premium cannabis brand founded by Richard DeLisi—once America’s longest‑serving nonviolent cannabis prisoner—after his release in 2020 following 32 years of a 98‑year sentence. Rooted in a story of injustice, resilience, and reform, DeLisioso uses its platform to advocate for cannabis justice while delivering premium flower, pre‑rolls, and live rosin crafted with a focus on quality and innovation.

Redemption Cannabis is a Michigan‑born brand founded by Ryan Basore after serving a wrongful federal sentence for cannabis, transforming his experience into a mission of justice and second chances. The company donates a portion of every sale to The Redemption Foundation, supporting people still impacted by cannabis convictions through commissary support, legal aid, expungement help, and re‑entry support. Known for producing high‑quality flower and concentrate products, Redemption now reaches hundreds of dispensaries while staying rooted in its purpose: premium cannabis that fuels real reform.
