What’s Changing?

Beginning July 1, 2025, the state tax on recreational (a.k.a. adult-use) cannabis purchases will increase from 9% to 12%. This tax hike is a statewide policy decision, not a decision set by dispensaries.

With this change, Maryland expects to raise an estimated $39 million in added revenue as part of a broader budget plan to support public services. But it also means recreational customers in the state will see higher prices at checkout.

It's important to note that purchases of medical cannabis are not subject to this tax. If you’re eligible, you have options. Becoming a registered patient can help you save significantly every time you buy.
