Georgia Cannabis Law: What's Changed & Why it Matters
With Senate Bill 220 as law, the state has made one of the most meaningful updates to its program to date, expanding eligibility, increasing product access, and making it easier for patients to engage with medical cannabis in a more personalized way.
Product measurements, like THC, are now expressed in milligrams instead of percentages, helping make product selection and routines more intuitive.
The list of qualifying conditions has expanded and some requirements tied to severity have been eased, meaning many people who weren't eligible before may now be able to get their card. It also means patients may have the option to explore cannabis earlier in their journey instead of waiting until a condition progresses.

How to Get your Georgia Medical Cannabis Card
If you're wondering how to start with cannabis for the first time—or renew a lapsed certification—the process is more straightforward than many people expect.
To qualify for a medical cannabis card, you'll need to be a Georgia resident age 18+ with a condition recognized by the state. You can also be eligible if you are the legal guardian of someone with a qualifying condition. From there, you'll connect with a certified physician who can determine your eligibility and register you with the state's Medical Cannabis Registry if approved.
